Beware of button batteries – they're the hidden ghouls in Halloween gear! 

Small round button batteries can be hiding unsuspectingly in Halloween products such as children’s toys like jack-o-lanterns, cauldrons, fake candles, torches and wands.

Despite their small size, button batteries can pose significant dangers and injuries, especially to children under five years old. Not only are they a choking hazard for the little ones but they can also cause internal burns or even death when ingested.

Save yourself a fright this Halloween by keeping an eye on your child’s toys. Always ensure that the compartment holding the battery is secured by a screw, so it does not release the battery.

If you think a child has swallowed or inserted a button battery, call the Poisons Information Centre at 13 11 26 for help right away. If your child is having trouble breathing, call Triple Zero (000).

Don’t let your makeup turn you into a monster – always check the ingredient labels! 

Before using Halloween products like face paint, novelty tattoos, or fake blood, always check ingredient labels to avoid potential skin irritations or allergic reactions.

Avoid a fiery fright – choose Halloween costumes and wigs wisely

To ensure a safe Halloween, keep costumes and wigs away from open flames like jack-o-lanterns and heaters.

Always check costume labels for fire safety, choose those marked ‘flame resistant’ or ‘fire resistant’ as this helps reduce the risk of catching fire.

Remember to supervise children around heat sources to prevent accidents for a safe and spooky celebration!
