A wild fire occurred at Location 1482 South Coast Highway, about 72 km west of Esperance, on Friday 10 December 2004. EnergySafety carried out an investigation into the cause of the fire and determined that the fire started when a calf came into contact with a fallen 19.1 kv phase conductor.  The pole supporting the phase conductor had previously fallen to the ground. Heat generated from current flow through the calf ignited dry stubble.
