Changes to prescribed classes of repair work under the Motor Vehicle Repairers Act 2003 and Motor Vehicle Repairers Regulations 2007

The classes listed below are no longer prescribed classes of repair work.

Repairers who are currently certified in any of the classes listed below are not affected by these changes. Existing repairer certificates will remain valid.

This page has been created as a reference document and lists the definition and prescribed qualifications for each of the removed classes of repair work. . Repairers who are certified in a class listed below can continue to carry out the work described in the definition.

Classes of repair work no longer prescribed 

Cylinder head reconditioning work (CHR)

Definition

Cylinder head reconditioning work means any work required to overhaul a cylinder head of an engine that is, was, or may be, fitted to a motor vehicle.

Diesel fitting work (DFW)

Definition

Diesel fitting work means any work required to do any of the following –

  1. to service, repair, overhaul or modify any of the following that is, was, or may be, fitted to a heavy vehicle or light vehicle –
  1. a diesel fuel system;
  2. a diesel engine;
  1. to service, repair, overhaul or modify any of the following that is, was, or may be, fitted to a heavy vehicle or light vehicle propelled by a diesel engine –
  1. an air induction system;
  2. an ignition system;
  3. an engine management system;
  4. a cooling system;
  5. a hydraulic system;
  1. to do any of the following in respect of a heavy vehicle or light vehicle propelled by a diesel engine –
  1. to fabricate, service, repair or modify the exhaust system;
  2. to repair or replace a rim, tyre or tube;
  3. to balance a wheel.

Definition

Diesel fuel and engine work means any work required to do any of the following –

  1. to service, repair, overhaul or modify a diesel fuel system that is, was, or may be, fitted to a heavy vehicle or a light vehicle;
  2. to service or repair a diesel engine that is, was or may be, fitted to a heavy vehicle or a light vehicle;
  3. to service or repair any of the following that is, was, or may be, fitted to a heavy vehicle or light vehicle propelled by a diesel engine –
  1. an air induction system;
  2. an ignition system;
  3. an engine management system.

Definition

Driveline servicing and repairing work means any work required to service or repair a driveline that is, was, or may be, fitted to a motor vehicle.

Definition

Driveline and transmissions work means any work required to do any of the following –

  1. to service, repair, overhaul or modify a driveline that is, was, or may be, fitted to a motor vehicle;
  2. to service, repair, overhaul or modify any of the following that is, was, or may be, fitted to a heavy vehicle or a light vehicle –
    1. a transmission;
    2. a final drive assembly the differential of which is integrated with a transmission;
    3. an electronic drive management system.

Definition
