Consumers have a right to expect products and services they buy are safe. Products and services must meet safety standards and not pose a risk of injury, illness, or death. 

Product Safety laws are the same across the country. 

Product Safety Australia

Product Safety Australia (PSA) is run by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC). PSA has information on mandatory standards, recalls and bans. It also provides guides on what to look for when buying products and how to make products safer in the home. 

Reporting a product

If you think you have a banned or unsafe product, please contact us by email or via our advice line 1300 304 054.

Report any product safety issues regarding medicines or other health goods, including sunscreens, to the Therapeutic Goods Administration

Information you may need to give us 

Please provide as much detail as possible to help us investigate:

  • name of the product
  • where it is being sold
  • date you bought it (if applicable)
  • product make and/or model
  • name of manufacturer/importer
  • how much it cost (if applicable)
  • details of any injuries:
    • what injuries occurred
    • the date the injury occurred 
    • the age of the person injured 
    • whether the injured person needed medical attention
  • details of any contact you had with the supplier.

The information you provide will be reviewed. If any further information is needed, you will be contacted. If you kept the product, we may arrange to collect it for inspection. Do not send the product directly to us.
