Getting help dealing with retirement village

There are services available to provide help and advice about living in or leaving a retirement village.

Consumer Protection administers the Retirement Villages Act 1992, Regulations and Code.

Consumer Protection can help you with legal obligations of a village operator and resident’s rights.

Western Australian Retirement Villages Residents Association Inc (WARVRA) is the peak resident’s association providing advice and advocacy for their members.

Retirement Living Council is a national representative body for the retirement village industry with representation from the Property Council of Australia.

Aged & Community Care Providers Association: offers information about retirement village accommodation. They lead, advocate and provide support, advice and guidance to aged care providers. Their aim is to ensure a high performing and sustainable aged care sector.

Council on the Ageing (COTA) Western Australia. COTA is a state-wide not-for-profit organisation advancing the rights, needs and futures of people as we age.

Community Legal Western Australia. Helps people find community legal centres throughout WA.

National Seniors. A not-for-profit organisation representing Australians aged 50-plus.

Property Council of Australia – WA Division. The Property Council is the peak industry body for the property industry sector in Western Australia. It has membership of more than 260 companies representing all aspects of Western Australia’s property industry.

State Administrative Tribunal: reviews applications in relation to retirement village disputes.
