A person is eligible for an Authorised Mine Surveyor’s Grade 2 certificate if they can demonstrate evidence of:
Candidate must submit a National Police Certificate. The document must be issued within 12 months of Surveyors Competence Advisory Committee review.
The following WHS risk management units must be completed.
- RIIRIS501E or BSBWHS513 Risk management core unit of competency
- BSBWHS411 Unit of competency to contextualise work health and safety risk for a statutory position holder
- RIIRIS402E or BSBWHS414 – Unit of competency to assist in risk communication.
The committee can consider current and superseded versions of the above units if they are completed between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 2023.
- RIIRIS501D or BSBWHS503 Risk management core unit of competency
- BSBWHS401 Unit of competency to contextualise work health and safety risk for a statutory position holder
- RIIRIS402D or BSBWHS404 – Unit of competency to assist in risk communication.
- Complete the authorised mine surveyor (grade 2) – Qualification self-assessment template.
- Provide a copy of their relevant qualification(s) and academic transcript(s).

Transitioning a certificate of competency to a WHS statutory certificate
Certificate of competency holders have until the end of the transitional arrangements to transition their certificate over to an equivalent WHS statutory certificate. To apply:
- Create or log in to your Mines statutory positions portal (MSPP) account
- Upload a copy of your certificate of competency issued under the repealed Mines Safety and Inspection Act 1994
- Upload evidence of completing relevant risk management units for the certificate
- Once WorkSafe reviews and confirms your evidence, you will be prompted via email to enrol into the applicable legalisation examination
- Once you pass the examination, you will be awarded an equivalent WHS statutory certificate. This can be downloaded via your MSPP profile.
