All Australians could have their say on country of origin food labelling in an online survey to help design the Australian Government’s new labelling system.

Background

The Australian Government wants to deliver a more direct system for food labelling to give consumers the information they want in an easy to read and understand format.

The country of origin labelling changes will give consumers the information they need without imposing excessive costs on industry.

Australian consumers want to make more informed choices about the food they buy including such information as where their food has been grown and processed. 

The Government aims to give Australians confidence in knowing where their food is coming from.

Proposed changes

The proposed changes are highlighted in the consultation paper which includes the labels being considered.
