We are currently experiencing a high volume of building registration applications.
Our team is diligently working to ensure each application is processed as soon as possible.
We apologise for any delays and appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.
If you have any urgent inquiries or require further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact our licensing team on 1300 489 099.
Check your inbox, not your post box: Courtesy renewal notices are now sent by email. Further information at demirs.wa.gov.au/LSupdate.
If your registration is due to expire you can submit an application for renewal up to eight weeks before the expiry date stated on your registration certificate. You can download the form or call the department on 1300 489 099 to request that one be posted to you.
You must lodge your completed renewal application, supporting documents and payment before the expiry date. This will allow you to avoid the more complicated process for late applications.
It is important to note that incomplete applications will not be processed. Once a renewal application is accepted, your registration continues to be current past the expiry date, until a decision is made on your renewal application. While you are waiting for an outcome on your application, you may continue to undertake any work permitted by the registration.
You may confirm the “current” status of your registration on the Register of Builders, which is updated daily.
Your application will be processed by the renewals team for consideration by the Building Services Board. The Board will then issue successful applicants with new certificates of registration.
As of 1 February 2023, the Building Service Board will have enhanced powers to manage the commercial conduct and behaviour of registered building service providers. These changes relate to certain events that occurred on or after this date.
It is important that you are aware of these changes as they may impact your application for registration. View full details of the changes here.
The Building Services (Registration) Act 2011 requires the Building Services Board (the Board) to be satisfied that a building service contractor in their class of registration continues to meets the prescribed financial requirements.
All contractors must answer questions about their financial capacity. Building and building surveying contractors must also provide supporting documents as detailed on the application forms as evidence of financial capacity.
Payment of the fee must accompany the renewal form. Fees can be paid by post or in person. Acceptable payment methods are cheque, money order, credit card, cash or EFTPOS. Please note that online payment is NOT available for renewal fees. Details of the current fees can be found here.
PROTECTION OF CREDIT CARDHOLDER INFORMATION: The department is committed to protecting your personal information it collects, uses or discloses when processing applications and making transactions. Under no circumstances should you include your payment card (credit/debit) details as part of any application submitted online. This includes for payment, proof of ID or within any other supporting documentation such as financial statements that accompany your application.
Use one form and include both of the Management and supervision forms:

Late applications may be lodged within six months after the expiry date of a registration but you must first write a letter giving reasons for the delay. You can use the late application form for this purpose. If the Board accepts your reasons, you are then required to complete a renewal application form and pay the required fee.
If the Board does not accept your reasons, you may not apply to renew your registration, but you may apply for a new registration. The board has particular forms to assist applicants applying for a new registration within three years of a former registration expiry date.
It is recommended that you lodge your renewal application before your registration expires to avoid the inconvenience of a late application or a new registration. If you have difficulty submitting your complete renewal application on time, please submit an incomplete renewal application before the expiry date. Contact the Licensing area for further assistance on 1300 489 099.
For more information, please refer to the Board's policy on late applications (renewals).
